Growing happy cattle, selling ethical meat

Carinya Rise is not your ordinary beef property. It’s the home of happy, healthy cattle and the source of delicious, ethically produced meat.

Nestled in the hills in the historic Dayboro village, Carinya Rise is the life-long dream of Andrew and Nicolette Newell. They moved to the farm from their five-acre property in town about three years ago and now produce some of the highest quality paddock to plate beef you can find.

“We believe our beasts should never have a bad day,” says Nicolette.

“Sure, we strive for the best practises and ensure our beasts are fed on quality pastures, but the most important thing is we make sure they experience the best handling practices to live happy, healthy and stress-free lives. “This means no stress hormones in your meat.”

Nicolette can also narrate a string of other benefits of their quality grass fed, grass finished, stress-free beef, including being lower in fat and higher in nutrients such as beta-carotenes, vitamin E and omega-3.

And while customers obviously love the delicious and nutritious beef, Nicolette says it’s the Carinya Rise story that people connect with most.

“Customers love that we love our cattle… that they are born and raised here in Dayboro and that they are handled all the time to ensure they are happy and healthy.”

For all meat sold, Nicolette could easily tell the backstory of exactly what the cattle had eaten and how it was raised. She says this is something she loves most about their product, and only buys other meat proteins from people who do the same style of farming.

As well as running the farm and family, Nicolette and Andrew both have full time jobs in town in the veterinary industry. Despite this busy-sounding life, they are just as happy as their ultra-Zen cattle, especially when it comes to being part of a network of similar-minded producers and customers.

After being prepared by a quality, family-owned butcher, Carinya Rise beef is cryovaced into meal size packs and sold through local avenues such as REKO Dayboro.

REKO is a really nice outlet for our sort of produce,” says Nicolette.

“Actually, initially we became involved with REKO because my sister was starting a Keto take home meal business and I thought it would be a good outlet for her - and it certainly has been.”

“We joined when we became ready to have meat for sale. It’s a great team to work with and learn from, and to connect with wonderful customers interested in the same ethics as us.”

To any other business or buyer thinking of becoming part of the REKO community, Nicolette is very encouraging.

“I highly recommend it – give it a go! You will love it!”

It’s a great team to work with and learn from, and wonderful customers interested in the same ethics as us.
